Richard was a lifelong resident of Frederick, Md.

He was a member of Brook Hill United Methodist Church and the 29th Division Association.

He was a decorated World War II veteran serving his country in the invasion of Normandy at Omaha Beach, first day, second wave as a S/Sgt with Company A of the 115th Infantry, 29th Division.

He later received his battlefield commission as 2nd Lt shortly after their landing in France and had been awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star Medal.

He later retired from the Maryland National Guard where he served as company commander of his Co. A 115th Infantry 29th Division in Frederick.

He worked as a cabinetmaker for several companies in Frederick until his retirement in 1985. In his retirement years he enjoyed working in his garden, wood working and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Madeline; a daughter; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by three siblings; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one his parents, Alonza and Nannie Fox; brother, James Fox and one sister, Mary Margaret Schroyer.
