Capt. William Richard Burlingame, 84, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend; born Saturday, November 9, 1929 in Manchester, New Hampshire to parents, Parker & Bernadette Burlingame; went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 5, 2014 with his loving family by his side.

William or "Bill" by his family and friends has been a resident of the Falls Church area for many years. Originally from Manchester, Bill joined the United States Marine Corps at age of eighteen and served his country proudly for over twenty-two years before his retirement. This involved one tour in Japan, two tours in Korea, and one tour in Vietnam, where he received his Officer's Commission and one tour in Puerto Rico. Although the Marine Corps was a devoted way of life for him, he was later employed with the government contractor, SWL. But Bill always lived with the belief of once a Marine, always a Marine. Semper Fi.

Bill was a devout Catholic, attending Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Vienna, Virginia where Bill served as an usher. In Bill's free time, he enjoyed the pleasures of being a private pilot, and flying his airplane along the east coast. He also enjoyed maintaining his property in Falls Church, Va., and putting that final shine to his vehicles. Also Bill enjoyed running and competing in 5K and 10K runs, and he sure loved his Boston Red Sox Baseball games, and Washington Redskins Football.

What Bill truly loved most of all were the times he shared with his family and friends who he loved very dearly. Bill will be truly missed by all who had their lives touched by him.

Bill is preceded in death by his loving parents, Parker and Bernadette Burlingame.

Bill is survived by his two loving children, Brenda Colleen Paschal & husband Tom and Craig Dennis Burlingame; three dearly loved grandchildren, David Allan Rankin & wife Rochelle, Scott Michael Burlingame & wife Jenny and Amy Suzanne Reiser & husband Chris; seven beloved great-grandchildren, Lydia Ann Rankin, Nathan Allan Rankin, Nicole Elizabeth Rankin, Brooke Burlingame, Reese Burlingame, Maddie Reiser and Ben Reiser; three dear siblings, Robert Burlingame, Ruth Lyons and Pauline Kamradt and numerous other family members and friends.

A visitation will be held Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Murphy Funeral Home; 1102 W. Broad Street; Falls Church, Virginia 22046.

A graveside service will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that a donation be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or St. Jude's Hospital in Bill's name.
