BILL NOLAN HOWARD was born to Ruth and Roscoe Howard on June 29, 1932 at the old Methodist Hospital near downtown Houston, and he died at The Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center on June 19, 2009. Like his parents before him. Bill chose a career as a funeral director and was known as a consummate professional. Most people continue to associate him with Howard-Glendale Funeral Home and San Jacinto Funeral Home and Cemetery, but Bill was ultimately forced to retire many years ago following strokes at the age of 47. Bill was actively involved in his community and served it in many ways. As a young man he volunteered with a variety of organizations including the Optimist Club and Jaycees, and he was a school board member for Galena Park ISD from 1972 to 1981. He also took great pride in his association with the Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. At the time of his death he was a member of the Galena Park/Jacinto City Rotary Club, and in 2008 he was honored for 25 years of perfect attendance. Bill was also a member of First Baptist Church of Jacinto City and could be found there most Sunday mornings helping count the day's offerings. Bill is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathryn (Kay) Howard; daughter Cynthia Latour ( Mark) son Bill N. Howard, Jr., DVM, (Tammy Bone) daughter Kathy Shelly (Don) son Michael T. Howard; and beloved granddaughter Alexis Shelly. He is also survived by his sister Juliana Rutherford ( Ron) sister Charlotte Fade (Wayne) cousin Patricia McCarley; and mother-in-law Edythe Tompson. Other survivors include brother-in-law Willard Tompson, DDS, (Lu) two nieces and four nephews; and many friends. Funeral services led by Pastor Rick Blount will be held Tuesday, June 23 at 10 a.m. at Carter Funeral Home with burial immediately following in San Jacinto Memorial Park.
