"We are sorry to chronicle the death of Mr. James Brown, who died at his home, Sunday, June 5. He was born in Jennesea New York, August 8, 1819, and died at the age of 78 years 8 months and 27 days. He came to this neighborhood in 1870, 28 years ago ... as a result of his earnest toil secured a nice little home, one and one-half miles south of Whiting .... He leaves a companion, and four children .... The remains were interred in the Whiting cemetery" -The Whiting Journal, June 9, 1898.
