Jerald "Jerry" Briggs
(April 22, 1943 - January 27, 2014)

Jerald "Jerry" Briggs, 70, of Lumberport, went to be with his Lord on Monday, January 27, 2014. He was born April 22, 1943 in Altoona, PA, a son of the late Ardell and Virginia Audrey Decker Briggs.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Susie Gallaher Briggs, whom he married February 7, 1986; 4 children: Jerry Lee, Renee, Debbie and Shawn, all of Ohio; 2 brothers-in-law: Sandy Gallaher of OH and Tommy Gallaher, Lumberport; several cousins-in-law, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Johnny Ray; and was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having also been preceded in death by 2 sisters and a brother.

Jerry was a sales counselor in the funeral industry, locally at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, and last worked for WalMart for 13 years until his health prevented him from continuing. He was a Viet Nam War veteran, having served in the United States Navy. He was a licensed insurance agent, a member of the Morgantown/Fairmont DAV #45, a life member of VFW post 573 in Clarksburg, was a talented guitar player, and loved riding his motorcycle.

Most importantly, Jerry was a Christian who dearly loved the Lord and the Bible. He was a member of the Lumberport Baptist Church where he was a gifted Sunday School teacher, and served as Trustee and Stewardship Team Leader. He loved his church family and will be greatly missed.

Friends may call at the Lumberport Baptist Church on Thursday from 3-8 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Chad Hutson officiating. Interment will be in the WV National Cemetery at Pruntytown with full military honors.
