Birth: Apr. 26, 1904
Death: Apr. 1, 1978

Marvyl Elizabeth was the oldest of eight children born to Mary Olive Imes Anderson and Marvel Elijah Anderson on April 26, 1904. Kitty Lenore, the fourth born child, passed away from whooping cough when she was ten months old and is buried in Colorado. Mary Olive and Marvel lived in Sawpit, Colorado for several years while raising their family before moving to Mesa, AZ in 1915. Permelia Venora and Isaac Butler Imes, Marvyl's Grandparents, had moved to Mesa, AZ before Mary Olive (Imes)and Marvel Anderson and family relocated to Mesa from Colorado. Marvyl's parents, Mary Olive and Marvel Elijah, bought ten acres of "school land" which was land owned by the state of AZ. The family farmed their land for many years and Marvyl's brothers took an active part in helping with farming and farm chores. Marvyl and her sisters helped their Mother with household and kitchen activities which were plentiful with a large family to raise. Marvyl remembers raising chickens, cows, vegetables, picking fruit from their orchard, canning 400 quarts of fruits and vegetables, and baking about 40 loaves of bread a week to feed the family of seven children and two adults. Marvyl graduated from Tempe Normal School in Tempe, AZ and started teaching in 1925. Tempe Normal School later became Arizona State University. Marvyl was a teacher for 48 1/2 years in Mesa, AZ and in Flagstaff, AZ. Marvyl married Tom Hogan, a native of Flagstaff, AZ, and moved to Flagstaff to live with her husband, Tom. In 1956, Marvyl and Tom returned to Mesa and built a home on the site of the original family home. Marvyl and Tom loved their home and it's setting on the old home place as it was a peaceful green oasis of trees, grass, and flowers. Marvyl was a wonderful person who was loved by all who knew her.
