Coopersville Observer Jan 6, 1925, Page 4:
Abraham DeCan was born September 6, 1853 in Wayne County, New York and died January 5, 1925, at Dallas, Oregon, aged 72 years. He came to Michigan in 1868 and settled near Coopersville, where he lived until twenty-six years ago when he moved west.
He was the eleventh child in a family of thirteen of whom two survive. Those who survive are his brother Henry DeCan of Idaho and Mrs. Ed Gates of Coopersville.
Funeral services and interment in Dallas, Oregon.
The Dallas County (Oregon) Observer, Thursday, January 8, 1925:
Aged Man Found Dead on Ellendale Ranch
Abe Decan, aged about 70 years, was found dead Monday night by neighbors on the R. P. Boise ranch where he had been slashing and piling brush. Decan had been working on the place since October and when neighbors discovered that he had not come in from work Monday evening they began a search.
The first party failed to find him and more joined them for a further search. Decan was found lying on his face near a pile of brush. Apparently he had fallen from a stroke of apoplexy and died instantly.
Sheriff Hooker and Coroner Keeney were called. The body was brought to the Henkle Undertaking Parlors here and no inquest was held.
Decan was last seen by neighbors about 2 o'clock Monday going to work. He evidently died between that time and 5 o'clock as his custom had been to quit work at five.
Little is known here of him although he has lived in this vicinity for short times for a number of years. He carried a card in the Hood River Oddfellows lodge and is thought to have relatives there. A brother Henry Decan is thought to live at St. Maries, (Benewah Co.) Idaho, and another brother at Coopersville, Mich. C. W. Henkle is attempting to locate relatives and until such time as he does no arrangements will be made for the funeral.
J.F. Converse, J. C. Rogers and the Chamberlains were in the party who hunted for the man and finally found his body.
The case was the first official call for Mr. Hooker and Mr. Keeney, both of whom took office Monday.

CORPSE FOUND AT ELLENDALE
Coroner Keeney Called First Day in Office - Decon's Death Natural
On his first day in office Coroner A.L. Keeney, of Independence, was called to investigate the case of Abe Decon, whose dead body was found on the old Boise place, at Ellendale, about 8 o'clock Monday evening. Decon, who was aged about 70, had been employed on the Boise place cutting bush for several weeks. He lived alone on one of the houses on the farm. When he failed to return to the house in the evening, neighbors investigated and found his body near where he had been cutting brush. Sheriff Hooker and Undertaker Henkle were summoned and emoved the body to Dallas and then called Coroner Keeney. After learning the details, the latter decided death was due to natural causes and declared an inquest was not necessary.
Little is know here about Decon, but he is believed to have a brother somewhere in Idaho. A membership card in the Odd Fellows lodge at Hood River was also found in his pocket. Funeral arrangements are waiting results of efforts that are being made to communicate with the brother.
