Richard Allin/Allen was born in Durham, Ontario, to William Allin/Allen and Frances "Fanny" Adams. In December 1857, Richard married Ann Whitelock. They made their home in Dereham Centre, with Ann's brother and his family living on one side of them, and her father and unmarried siblings living on the other. Together, Richard and Ann had five known children: Mary Catherine (1860-1891), John Wesley (1864-1864), George (1865-1939), Hiram (1867-1947) and Jesse (1869-1919). The family were faithful Christians and made their living through farming.
Sadly, Richard's wife Ann contracted breast cancer and died on 24 January 1887. She was only 51 years old. Richard never remarried, dying twelve years later, in 1899. He is buried alongside Ann in Old Delmer Cemetery, located in Oxford, Ontario, Canada.
