William Gunström [Grundström] was the oldest of four children born to BEDA ELISABET SKARIN and GOTTFRID GRUNDSTROM [GUNSTROM]. He was born in Vasternorrland, Sweden on 06 May 1906.

As a 5-month-old child, he and his parents, Gottfrid and Beda emigrated from Sweden to North America. The family began their travels on 28 September 1906 from Goteborg, Sweden to Hull, England. The couple then traveled on 02 October 1906 from Liverpool, England across the sea aboard the S.S. SAXONIA along with their 5-month-old son Birger William Carl Grundström, also known as 'Bill'. It must have been a long journey, and the young family traveled in 'Steerage', which could not have been an easy voyage. They arrived at the Port of Boston, Massachusetts on October 11, 1906. Their last name may have been shortened to 'GUNSTROM' when they arrived in Winnipeg.

He grew up in Winnipeg. The year after arriving in Manitoba his sister Signe Elizabeth Grundström was born in 1907. In 1911 his second sister Elsa Amerencia Grundström was born. A fourth child named Fred Bertyl Gunström [Grundström] was born but died a year later.

Bill married Evelyn Winnifred Teskey on 12 September 1930. The couple divorced shortly afterward.
City records show Bill working as a Tinsmith in 1935, and living at his family home at 399 Tweed Avenue. He is also shown living on Tweed Avenue in 1940 and 1945 with his family and working as a painter.

In 1950 Bill married Elizabeth Peters in Vancouver, B.C. The couple later divorced in 1959 in Vancouver. Bill remained in the Vancouver BC area for a number of years, working as a mechanic.

Bill Married Violet Ellenthorpe, a widow who was a good friend of his sister Signe (Betty). Violet was the Maid of Honour at Betty Gunstrom and Vern Mulberry's wedding in 1930. Vi and Bill lived in North Vancouver (Coast Capilano) for a number of years; from about 1960 until at least 1972. Bill worked as a mechanic during this time. Eventually the couple returned to Winnipeg, and later Sanford, Manitoba. Vi had children from her first marriage, under the surname, 'Goddard'. Bill and Vi had no children of their own.

Bill was an avid bowler. In the Winnipeg Tribune Newspaper on January 31, 1941, it states that Bill Gunström, of the Associated Vic Mixed Bowling League, bowled a 622.

On June 23, 1944, the Winnipeg Even Tribune reported that W. GUNSTROM was a member of the union as a bargaining agent. "The Manitoba Wartime Relations board, responsible for administering the National Labor code in the province, has adopted a procedure of certifying bargaining representatives of employees of various firms or groups." Mr. Gunström was listed under:
Gregg Manufacturing Co., Winnipeg-Metal and Woodworkers Union, Local No. 1, Canadian Congress of Labor.

Bill and Vi traveled to visit family in Omaha, Nebraska and across Canada. The couple are both buried in the Sanford Cemetery.
