Celeste Van Sickel Gallup, age 87, of Richland Twp., Gibsonia, died peacefully on Friday afternoon, April 4, 2014 at LAS St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA on January 11, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Edward Lee and Anne Lincoln Van Sickel.

A 1949 graduate of Wilson College, she moved to Richland in 1958 from Mt. Lebanon. She married Edward H. "Ted" Gallup on December 30, 1950. Ted passed away on March 5, 1992.

For 20 years, she and Ted were the owners and proprietors of the Sample Shack and Shack Too, retail gift shops and clothing stores in Allison Park.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown, where she was a longtime Sunday School Teacher. Celeste also belonged to the Wilson College Club of Pittsburgh, the Col. William Wallace Chapter of the NSDAR in Pittsburgh, PA and many conservation groups. She adored gardening for birds and butterflies and educated her family in her love of nature. Her home in Gibsonia and her island in Canada were her life's passion.

Surviving are a daughter, Anne C. Gallup (Virginia) of Tacoma, WA., three sons, David R. Gallup of Taylors, S.C., Richard L. Gallup (Trina) of Millheim, PA and Daniel C. Gallup (the late Linda) of Gibsonia, grandmother of Cecilia, Jennifer and Sarah, and her brothers, Edward L. Van Sickel (Barbara) of Somerset, PA and Daniel P. Van Sickel (Priscilla) of Panama City, Fl.

Friends are invited to a Memorial Service in the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown, 5825 Heckert Rd. Bakerstown, PA 15007, on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 10:30 AM. Rev. Dan Muttart, Rev. Gary Weston, and Rev. Karen Anderson, pastors, officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Burial will be in Bakerstown Cemetery.
