Campbell Elsie Winnifred (Winnie), Brookfield

Winnie passed away peacefully in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, with her family by her side on Sunday, July 7th in her 96th year. Born in Wittenburg on Aug. 31st 1917, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Ellen (Mosher) Sibley. She moved to Middle Stewiacke in 1941 when she married Ralph Campbell. Winnie remained on the family farm until 2000 when she moved to Cobequid Hills senior apartments in Brookfield, living there independently up until the last month of her life. Many enjoyable afternoons and evenings were spent playing 45’s and dominoes with her friends at Brandt Lane. She also enjoyed traveling around the area to various card parties. Mum always enjoyed her meals at Fletcher’s and Terry’s Place. She loved her African violets and always received compliments from anyone who saw them. She enjoyed the daily challenges of the crossword puzzle, cryptoquotes, word target, jigsaw puzzles, and the weekly lexicon. These activities kept her mind very sharp. She had a quick wit and loved a good joke. Many happy days were spent at the cottage with her family, watching the birds and wildlife. For many summers, Mom looked forward to spending a few days touring the Atlantic Provinces with her two daughters. She was a member of the Middle Stewiacke Ladies Auxiliary and later the UCW always there doing her part at the various suppers and activities.

Our mother is survived by her children, Colin (Nova) Middle Stewiacke; Alan, Shortts Lake; Karen (Bill) Stevens, Dartmouth and Joanne (Brian Ettinger), Truro. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Janell (Jason) Nelson, Jeff Campbell, Catherine Jane and Warren (Becky Wadden) Stevens. In the past year and a half Nana was blessed with 2 great grandsons, Tate and Kase Nelson who lit up her life. She is also survived by her sister, Blanche Nagels (Montreal), and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. There will be no visitation by family request. Funeral service will be held in Middle Stewiacke United Church, Middle Stewiacke on Wednesday, July 10th at 1:00 pm with Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Middle Stewiacke Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in Winnie’s memory may be made to the Middle Stewiacke Cemetery or to a charity of your choice.
