DEBLOCK, Dale B. Sr., 76, of Tampa, formerly of Detroit, Michigan, died Tuesday, December 14, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; son, Dale B. "Chip" DeBlock Jr. of Tampa; two daughters, Kimberly DeBlock Mihok of Dahlonega, Ga., and Debra DeBlock-Hayford of Land O' Lakes, Fla.; two brothers, Wayne and Glenn DeBlock of Detroit, Mich.; two sisters, Mickie Lindquist of Ocala, Fla., and Virginia Patten of Vero Beach, Fla.; and seven grandchildren, Andrew, Joshua, Josiah, Daniel, Micah and Kirsten Mihok, all of Dahlonega, Ga., and Holland Hayford of Land O' Lakes, Fla. After graduating from Wayne State University, Dale moved from Michigan to Tampa in 1959 and met his wife, Yvonne, while attending Spencer Memorial Baptist Church. They were married shortly afterward in 1960 and just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Besides being a father to three children, Dale was a State Farm Insurance agent for 36 years, retiring in 1997. He also served part-time as minister of music at Wellswood Baptist Church from 1967-1970 and then at Idlewild Baptist Church from 1970-1984, where he continued to be an active member in many other capacities, including that of deacon. In October of 2005, Dale was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a terminal disease. It is believed that his exposure to asbestos starting from his pre-teen years while helping his father in the roofing industry contributed to this condition. Although being given a maximum of only a year and a half to live by doctors, Dale fought this disease vigorously and God' s grace allowed him to remain with us for over five years. Dale was a dedicated husband, loving father and devout Christian. He studied God' s word daily and attempted to lead his life with honor, integrity and humility. He loved life and enjoyed playing tennis, but his passion was music. During his early years in Florida, Dale taught band at Monroe Junior High and eventually became a charter member of the Day of Discovery' s TV "Discovery Singers" (a nationally televised program). Dale touched many lives throughout his short time here and will be greatly missed. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Michael Cichon, Dr. Tawee Tanvelyanon, Dr. Theron Ebel, Dr. Jack Pledger, the wonderful caring staff at Moffitt and LifePath Hospice for their professionalism, compassion and support during this difficult time. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday, December 17, at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 3207 W. Bearss Ave., Tampa. Another visitation will take place 10-11 a.m. Saturday, December 18, at Idlewild Baptist Church, 18371 N. Dale Mabry Highway, with a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Donations may be made to the Idlewild Baptist Music Program or to the Moffitt Cancer Research Center.
