William A Blake Passes Away
The community was shocked and deeply grieved to learn of the death last Saturday afternoon, April 29, of William A Blake, 62, well-known citizen of this place and for many years a telegraph operator and dispatcher for the Omaha railroad.
Deceased was forced to give up his work as chief dispatcher at this place during the past year because of failing health. Despondency due to illness was the cause of the deplorable act which claimed his life
William Albert Blake was born in New Knapp, Wis., a community situated just north of Shell Lake on October 3, 1887. He spent the early years of his life there and started work for the Omaha railroad at the Shell Lake station in 1903, when but a youth. In later years he served as a telegrapher at Barksdale, Solon Springs, and Itasca, coming to Spooner in 1912 as dispatcher. He was also employed as dispatcher in Eau Claire when the office was maintained in that city for a couple of years, returning to Spooner when the office was returned here. He became chief dispatcher in 1948 and held that position since.
Deceased was married in 1908 to Katherine Wendt, who passed away June 7, 1939. On April 6, 1941 he married Catherine Keeler, who survives him.
