Diving Victim Is Buried Here Saturday

Floyd Carbeno Suffered Fractured Neck While Swimming in River

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:oo p.m. for Lester Floyd Carbeno, 18-year-old youth who suffered a fractured neck in a diving mishap July 11 1953.

He died Thursday forenoon of his injuries in University Hospital at Ann Arbor, where he had undergone an operation Sunday. His condition had apparently been improveing until shortly before his death.

Floyd was hurt when he dove off a stump at the High Banks along the Cedar river, north of Gladwin, and struck his head on the bottom. He was given emergency treatment at the Gladwin Hospital and rushed by ambulance to Ann Arbor.

The son of Mr. & Mrs. Charles C.Carbeno, he was born here May 22,1935 and had lived here all of his life.He was employed by the Michigan Tree Service and worked in this area.

Surviving are his parents; two brothers, Howard & Wayne of Gladwin & three sisters, Mrs. Donna Adaments,Mrs. Ruth Grice both of Gladwin & Mrs. Violet Yerke of Lansing. Two brothers Robert & Fredrick preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held from Miner Funeral Home and burial was made in Highland Cemetary. The Rev. F.K. Starr, pastor of the Butman Breathern in Christ Church officiated.
Paulbearers were James Gilbert, Donald Burton, Raymond McClain,Fredrick Wray, Floyd Wray,Lawrence Hager, Robert Spitler & Richard Carnahan. Gladwin County Record dated 7-22/1953 Column - 2 Page - 1.
