Will ASBURY, a well known citizen of Thompson Valley, is in jail here, charged with seriously cutting Malachi CAUDILL at the home of George ASBURY, a relative, on last Sa night, in lower Thompson Valley. ASBURY was captured Tu night at the home of a kinsman in the edge of Smythe, were ASBURY fled after the cutting. He was just preparing to retire when Sheriff HARMAN took him unawares. CAUDILL has been in very serious condition since the cutting. He was stabbed in the neck, & his wrist nearly severed from his body. The doctors believe he also received a blow on the head, which has caused a partial paralysis of his body. Little hope is entertained for his recovery. The cause of the trouble cannot be learned, but it is said that ASBURY & another member of the party who were attending the cake cutting at George ASBURY'S were fighting & CAUDILL intervened to prevent the fight, & ASBRY turned upon him, with the results mentioned. It is reported that all of the parties at the ASBURY house were drinking, & that the casualty were more the outcome of the liquor than any other cause. Dr. Melvin CROCKETT left here on Su morning about 3am, & rendered all the aid possible, & later called in Dr. GREEVER, both of whom were present with CAUDILL a good apart of Su. At last reports CAUDILL was not expected to live.
