LAVERGNE McCONWELL LaVergne McConwell, 86, of Mission, KS, passed away early Friday morning, October 12, 2001, at St. Luke's Hospital. Visitation will be 10- 11 a.m. with funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 17, at the Countryside Christian Church, 6101 Nall Avenue, Mission, KS. Contributions may be sent to the Q Scholarship Foundation for Shrine Children, 5925 Beverly, Mission, KS 66202.
LaVergne was born February 11, 1915 in Republic, KS, to Belle and Amil Nelson. She attended the University of Kansas on a Watkins Fellowship and worked as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in North Central Kansas. After marrying in 1938 and raising two children, she worked for the Pillsbury Grain Company, retiring in 1980. LaVergne was a member of the Countryside Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening, played bridge and golf, and was involved in LaSertoma, but mostly she delighted in spending time with her family.
She is survived by A.T. "Tom" McConwell, her husband of 63 years; her son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Linda McConwell of Overland Park; daughter, Patsy Shawver of Prairie Village; granddaughter, Laura McConwell and her husband, Ed Wayda of Mission; grandson, Eddie McConwell and his wife, Amy of Fairway; granddaughter, Katie Moore and her husband, David of Mission Hills; granddaughter, Erin Billingsley and her husband, Drew of Fairway; grandson, Brian Shawver of Boston; and great- grandchildren, Mark and Elizabeth Wayda, Will and Emily McConwell, Claire and Ellen Moore. She is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Clemons and Margaret Nelson of LaJolla, CA and a niece and nephew, Terry and Steve Nelson. LaVergne's family and friends will greatly miss her warmth, kindness, devotion and her amazing cherry pies.
