DALHART - Mattie "Blackie" Grantham, 79, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Lincoln Street Baptist Church with Rusty Hancock, pastor, and Bob McAlister, pastor of First Baptist Church of Channing, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home.

Mrs. Grantham was born Feb. 9, 1923, in Kress to William H. and Geneva Hamilton Bridgeman. She married Jesse L. Grantham on July 15, 1939, in Clovis, N.M.

They moved to Dalhart in February 1968. She had worked at Coon Memorial Nursing Home for more than 17 years. She had devoted much of her life providing care for others. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Lincoln Street Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter, Jeri Dale; her parents; three sisters; and two brothers.

Survivors include a daughter, LaVada Jo McGavock and husband, Dennis, of Hico; four sons, Jerald Deen Grantham and wife, Sheryl, and Jesse Dwaine Grantham and wife, Becky, all of Amarillo, Sidney Clinton Grantham and wife, Kim, of Hurst and Myron Dale Grantham and wife, Shirlyne, of Dalhart; two sisters, Sue Glenn of Kress and Elizabeth Crader of Pueblo, Colo.; a brother, Simon Bridgeman of Riverside, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch.
