Frances Esther Blackwell was born on August 26, 1908, near Prairie Chapel in Decatur County Kansas. She was the third of five children born to Delaware T. and Elsie (Englehart) Decker.

Her early years were spent in Decatur County until the age of 12. Following the death of her father, the family moved to Orleans, Neb., in 1920. Here she grew to adulthood and was married to Dale H. Blackwell in 1925. They were the parents of three children.

For a few years they lived in Missouri and in 1931 they returned to Orleans.

Mr. Blackwell died in 1940 and Frances continued the care and support of her family until they were grown.

She was employed in the office of Orleans Equity Creamery for 16 years. Beginning in 1952 she was employed in Denver, Colorado for eight and one-half years. In 1961 she took employment with Hansen-Fuenning Public Accountants in North Platte, Neb., from which she took her retirement after 30 years of office work.

During her retirement years she lived in Bowie, MD.; St. Joseph, Mo.; and Macclenny, Florida to be near her children.

Because of her failing health, she made her home for the past two years with her son, John, and his wife in Lake Stevens, Washington.

After a long illness, she was released from her suffering on September 8, 1987 at age 79.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; her daughter, Mary Moser; her parents; and her brother, Zenas Decker.

She is survived by her two sons and their wives, James D. and Wilma of Macclenny, Fla., and John D. and Grace of lake Stevens, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a son-in-law Lowell Moser of St. Joseph, Mo.; three sisters, Pansy Chapman, McCook, Neb.; Lulu Hunt, Amity, Oregon; Della Merrill, Wauneta, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Bessie Decker, Palisade, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held at Herrmann Funeral Chapel on September 14, 1987, with internment at Oberlin Cemetery, Oberlin, Kansas.
