Last Tuesday night a man named Braden, living in Standard hollow, one-half mile above Perry Watkins’ farm beyond Fifteen mile, Wasco county, accidentally killed himself by falling into a ditch. Mr. Braden had returned from The Dalles during the day, and at night went out to get a pail of water. His mother, with whom he was living at the time, waited for his return, and after calling him and receiving no reply, supposed he had gone to his brother-in-law’s, about two miles distant. On the way to the spring was a trail beside a ditch, the dirt in the bottom of which had been washed out by the recent thaw, leaving the rocks exposed, and on the following morning he was found dead at the bottom of the washout with his skull fractured. It is supposed that in walking along the trail at night, his foot slipped, and he fell on the rocky bottom of the ditch. Mr. Braden was a single man, aged about 40 years.
