Marie G. Crockett
December 30, 1915 - April 20, 2011
Mrs. Marie Crockett, age 95, of Alton, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.
There will be a private service, at a later date, in Custer County, Oklahoma. Interment will be near her husband and granddaughter.
Marie Gesine was born on December 30, 1915, in Bushnell, South Dakota, the daughter of Henry and Patranella (Schulte) Waalkes.
She and her husband, David Crockett, were longtime residents of the Alton area, where they worked and raised their family. In retirement, they spent several years in Florida.
After Dave's death, she returned to Sioux County, so she could "look out the window and see Iowa". For some time, she lived at the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City.
Mrs. Crockett was known for her love of teaching young people. She held Bible School classes, using the flannel craft method.
Survivors include her son and his wife, David and Peggy Crockett; her daughter and her husband, Patricia and James Klein; two brothers, Orville and Robert Heesch; and a beloved sister-in-law, Katie Waalkes.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Deborah Ree Salmon; two brothers, John and Ralph; and a sister, Orlene Heesch Heinbaugh.
