Gordon D. Benson, 82, of 618 Broad Ave., Susquehanna, Pa., died in the Barnes-Kasson Hospital, May 25, 1979 after a short illness.
He is survived by his wife, the former Helen (Tommie) Morse, Susquehanna; one daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Walter (Louise) Gelatt, N. Jackson; one grandson, John (Jack) Gelatt, Honesdale, Pa., two brothers, Lawrence, Buffalo, N.Y.; Jay, Susquehanna; three sister-in-law, Mrs. Lawrence Benson, Buffalo; Mrs. Eleanore Ulrick, Binghamton, N.Y.; Mrs. Mabel Benson, Great Bend, Pa.; several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of Susquehanna First Methodist Church and a charter member of the Stone Bridge Lion's Club; Past Grand of the Starrucca Lode 423 of the IOOF; a member of the Calvin Halsey Encampment 32 IOOF; a past Chief Patriarch Militant of Lodge 21, Whitney Point; a member of the Dora Rebekah Lodge 95 of Susquehanna.
He was also a member of the Chemical Engine Co. 1, recently merged into the Susquehanna Fire Dept.; a member of the Lanesboro Fire Co.; and a member of the S. Windsor Golf Club. He was in business with his brother, Jay, in the Benson Express Line, the moving, coal, and oil business for 40 years.
Funeral services were held May 29 from the Langford Funeral Chapel, 245 Main St., Susquehanna, with the Rev. J.G. Burt Easton, Pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in the North Jackson, Pa. cemetery.
