Chico Daily Record, Thursday Morning, October 23, 1902, pg 4 col 1: Mr. Edwin R. Lunt of Yankee Hill is here on his way to the Veterans’ Home at Yountville, Napa county. Mr. Lunt is advanced in years, and has poor health besides, and is entitled to a residence at the Home by reason of having served throughout the Mexican War as a private. He arrived in California in 1850, mined near Coloma and voted to make California one of the States of our glorious Union. – Oroville Mercury.

"In 1877, she married Edwin R. Lunt, a native of Eastport, Maine, who is also descended of Revolutionary stock, and is a descendant of the Governor Bradford family. Mr. Lunt served in the Mexican War and afterwards came to California, and was a prominent miner in Calaveras County, where he was known as Dr. Lunt. Coming to Butte County in early days, he mined awhile but also taught the school for many years. He was contemporary with Judge John C. Gray. For some years after his marriage Mr. Lunt taught school, but later gave his attention to farming, until his demise, in 1903." History of Butte County, CA 1918, George C. Mansfield, B. L. p. 1085.

Chico Daily Record, Thursday, January 29, 1903, pg 4, col 1: Edwin R. Lunt Dead. Edwin R. Lunt, an old citizen of this county, died on Saturday at the Veterans’ Home at Yountville, where he went several months ago.

Deceased was a native of Maine, aged 72 years. He served in Company A, 2nd Indiana Infantry, and came to California with his family after the close of the war. For several years he taught in the public schools of this county and for many years before his death he lived on his ranch near Yankee Hill, where the family still reside.

The remains were brought to Oroville and were taken to Yankee Hill for burial – Oroville Mercury.
