Alfred Bloom of Chisago City passed away at his home there last Thursday morning at the age of 80 years, 4 mo, and 13 days.

Mr. Bloom was born on May 26, 1861 on a farm 4 miles east of Center City. He was baptized by Pastor Hedengren and was later confirmed on April 6, 1876 by Pastor J. Fredeen in the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church.

The deceased spent his childhood days on a farm and after a grade school education, he engaged in various activities including lumbering, exploring for minerals, and mechanical engineering. While employed by the St. Paul-Duluth Railroad, he assisted in bridge construction, including the railway bridges at Lindstrom and Taylors Falls. In 1891 he entered into a partnership with Frank G., Lorens in the Lorens and Bloom Hardware and Furniture Company at Center City.

In 1892 on Sept 24 he was married to Minnie E. Rosenquist at Atwater, MN. To this union four children were born.

Dissolving partnership in Center City in 1894 he joined with his brother, the late J. A. Bloom, in a partnership that later became the Bloom Mercantile Co. He obtained his state license as a mortician in 1903, which work he continued, after disposing of the mercantile business until 1930. He has lived in retirement at his home in Chisago City since that date.

He became united with the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church on Aug 8, 1894 and remained a faithful member.

Those left to mourn his departure are his beloved wife, two daughters, Arline and Elvice, two sons, Pastor Wenzel Bloom of Arco and Pastor Aner Bloom of Grand Forks, North Dakota, 3 grandchildren, two brothers, Edward Bloom of Lindstrom and Joseph Bloom of Warroad, MN; two sisters, Christine Rose and Emma Strand of Marien and many other relative and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 12 at 2 pm at the Zion Lutheran Church at Chisago City with Pastors C. ER. Slatt and E. H. Baker officiating. Pallbearers were six nephews: Carl K. Bloom, Roy E Strand, Wallace R. Strand, Ellis A. Bloom, Vincent P. Bloom, and Gilbert R. Bloom. Interment was made at the Lindstrom Cemetery.
