Born in Sinai, South Dakota December 16th 1936 to Ed and Helgena Anderson, LaVern W. "Andy" Anderson came to Orland in 1945 at the age of eight. He attended Orland public schools and graduated from Orland High in 1955. As a youth, Andy attended the First Lutheran Church and was an active member of the church youth group, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Andy learned the value of hard work from his parents very early in life. By the age of 14 he already had worked two early morning paper routes for two different newspapers, delivered milk house to house and then store to store for Holvik's Dairy. At 14, he was hired by Graham Brothers Grocery as a box boy and stock clerk and at 15 went to work doing what we all know him forcutting meat! Andy worked for Johansen's Meats for 27 years, until he started "Andy's Butcher Block" in Los Molinos. 5 years later he moved his business to the well-known corner shop on Walker Street in Orland, where he was famous for his sandwiches and Tri-tip. You could see smoke from his BBQ every Friday until his retirement in 2004. While a senior at OHS, Andy met the love of his life, Barbara (Bobbe) McMartin, a junior at Willows High School. They were introduced through mutual friends and were married on June 17, 1956 at the Willows Methodist Church. They settled in Orland where he became involved with Orland Junior Chamber of Commerce, serving two terms as President, coached Junior Baseball and girls softball, was Commissioner of the Senior Division, and President of the Jr. Baseball League. Andy was a member of the Federated Church in Orland for many years. He was a member of the administrative council, served on the Board of Trustees, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. During their 56 years of marriage, Andy and Bobbe traveled to Denmark, Austria, Germany, England, Scotland, Canada, Mexico and saw 33 of the 50 states. For many years they could be found at numerous sports venues around Orland, Chico and Hamilton City watching one or more of their 7 grandchildren, rarely missing a game. Andy was a great community supporter, always ready to help with donations to various school functions, Orland Volunteer Fire Department, Youth Sports, and 4-H. In 2005, he was awarded with the Glenn County 4-H Meritorious Award. Andy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara; his son, Mike (Lori) of Chico, and two daughters, Lisa (Kris) of Chico and Marcie (Scott) of Orland; his brothers, LeRoy (Jeanette) of Green Valley, AZ, and Lew (Sheri) of Orland; 7 grandchildren, Casey Anderson, Shane Anderson (Brianne), Kristin Williams (Bradley), all of Orland; Elyse Anderson of Chico, Joshua Sidener (Chelsea), and Emilee Sidener of Redding; and Cavan Williams of Missoula, MT; one great-grandchild, Ace Matthew Sidener; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Andy was predeceased by his parents, Ed and Helgena and brother, Larry.
