Duff Lawson is the son of Curren Lawson and Malinda Gilbert of Hawkins County, Tennessee. Curren, On 5th Nov 1861, at the age of 18, enrolled in Company E 43rd TN Infantry. Some of the others in the 43rd Infantry included his brother James Lawson, his cousin Andrew Cobb, his in-laws Commodore Brown, James O. Murrell, and James Gilbert and Eli Gilbert. James and Eli Gilbert were the brothers of his second wife Malinda. The men of Company E were known as the Mount Sterling Banner Boys. Curren was captured at Vicksburg along with Andrew Cobb, and James Murrell. They were eventually paroled. On September 17, 1863 Curren enrolled in Company L of 8th Tenessee Cavalary along with his brother James Lawson, James Gilbert, James O. Murrell, and Harvey G. Murrell. On February 6, 1864 at Nashville, at the age of 22, Curren Lawson was appointed Corporal. Andrew Cobb and Eli Gilbert joined the 1st Tennessee Calvary. Curren Lawson died from fever on 25 July 1911. It is said that he is buried in Pumpkin Valley, TN. I still have not come across the name of the cemetery but have found a picture of his gravestone while searching online.

Curren and Malinda were married on Apr 7 1884 @ W.E. Byrd's Mill by minister P.A. Byrd. Curren's previous wife had died in late 1883.

Duff lawson lived to be 79 yrs old. He was born in Hawkins, Tennessee and married Lucy Burton. Lucy was the daughter of Francis Marion "ned" Burton/Trent and Nancy Ann Mallet Burton. Both of Tennessee. they had 4 children. 3 of them were born in Tennessee. May, Beulah & Sterling. Sometime before 1920 they moved to Greenville, SC. That is where Lucy died in 1920 from the Spanish Flu Epedimic. She died just 2 weeks after giving birth to their son Willard. Duff moved to Greensboro, NC and worked at the White Oak Mills as a Textile worker. He remarried to a Hattie Johnson. Their last known address was on Glenside Dr in Greensboro, NC. Duff is buried at the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery in Greensboro, NC. He died at Cone Memorial Hospital. I have not been able to find information about their daughter May/Mae. (still searching)
