Stella was one of nine children. A son & dau died leaving the seven McFall sisters. They kept in touch over the years with round robin letters. As an infant she was not expected to live. They carried her around on a pillow. Stella never reached five foot in height. She came to Oklahoma Territory from Illinois on the train with her mother and sisters. Their father had come ahead to claim a homestead. She met her husband Lee Brown at Liberty Hill School. She said she fell for him when he went to the blackboard and did the math problems. They married while still in their teens in 1907.... the same year Oklahoma became a state. They had five children Earl, Walter, Myrtle, Arlene & Thelma. Stella loved her grandchildren very much and we were very lucky to have her. They were Patsy, LaVeta, Lela, Kay Elise, Mary Janice, John Earl, Walter Eugene, Murray Lee, Mary Katherine, David, R. W., Paul, Bennie Lee, Courtney and Annette. She enjoyed ordering from catalogs and receiving packages in the mail. She stored things in her special closet. There was always an air of suspense as a grandchild waited for her to select their prize. She had a sweet tooth and especially like coconut items. Family gatherings centered around their home on Carter Street in Norman, Oklahoma. Easter Egg Hunts and the drawing of names at Christmas were special. On Thanksgiving the men would go hunting. When they returned we would have a big meal. Stella could never be persuaded to sit down at the table, but insisted on standing and serving. She and her husband Lee had a big celebration on their 60th Wedding Anniversary. Through out their life they kept up an entertaining banter going. It was always fun to see them in action.
