Alec Leonard Blake was born on August 21, 1903 at 24 Fleet Street in Keyham, Devon, England. He was the 12th and last child born to George Blake (1856-1910) and Emma Jane Bravin Blake (1858-1928). From 1917 until 1966 Alec Leonard was employed as a metal machinist, at the Royal Dockyard in Devonport. In 1925, Len served as a part-time volunteer sergeant in the Territorial Army Reserves. He married Gladys Ellen Brimacombe (1908-1997) at St. Mark's, in Plymouth on March 26, 1932. They had three sons. The first boy died at age five and the other two (twins) were born the following year. In his retirement, Len enjoyed gardening and his greenhouse. Len died on June 13, 1993 and was buried in the Weston Mill Cemetery in Plymouth, England.
