Fred was a war hero who fought in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

Fred J. Dowling, 63, 2141 Proctor, died Friday at his
home after a short illness. A native of Massachusetts, Dowling had been a Grand Prairie resident the
past 17 years.

He was a retired master sergeant of the U.S. Air Force with 31 years active service. He received the Bronze Star Medal for service in Vietnam. An active member of the Grand Prairie Elks Lodge, Dowling was serving as treasurer for the Grand Prairie Lodge No. 1910 at the time of his death and had been recently voted "Outstanding Treasurer of the North Texas District."
He served in various positions in the lodge including Exalted Ruler for the 1967 -68 year and was elected Elk of the Year in 1963.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; one son, and one granddaughter.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Graveside services will be conducted by the Grand Prairie Elks Lodge 1910 with burial to follow in Southland Memorial Park.
