Lorraine passed away peacefully January 30, 2014. She gave her final minutes to her husband Arlin, reflecting on their 55 years of marriage and their family. Lorraine then held Arlin's hand as she drifted to sleep and entered heaven.

Born May 16, 1939, Lorraine was raised in North Dakota with her brother and two sisters. Lorraine's grandparents Goodman and Anna Strand immigrated from Norway via cattle boat, a difficult trip during which they buried an infant daughter at sea. Goodman was a carpenter who built churches and barns across North Dakota, including the Shell Creek Lutheran Church. Her parents were Thomas and Esther Alvstad who raised Lorraine and her three siblings on a farm in Coulee, North Dakota.

Lorraine and Arlin Anderson were married March 28, 1958. In September of 1965, they and their four children at the time moved when Arlin transferred from the Minot, North Dakota AFB to Vandenberg AFB in Santa Barbara County. Lorraine worked full time for Martin Marietta at Vandenberg for several years, while pioneering the role of super mom. With her steady hand and tireless commitment to her family, she and Arlin created a loving home in Los Olivos, California where all were welcomed. Famous for her Sunday dinners, Lorraine was happiest when she was at home, surrounded by family and friends. When her nest was empty, Lorraine chose to care for others by providing home health care to the community.

Lorraine had eight children, including Mark, Michael, Craig, (Jay, deceased) Jason, Kristi, Mathew, and David. She had thirteen grandchildren, two of whom preceded her to heaven. She is also survived by her brother Darold and sister Sharon. All are welcome to join twenty five family members at her celebration of life service on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Santa Ynez Valley Presbyterian Church. Memorial contributions may be made in Lorraine's honor to the Mae Grissom Prayer Fund at the SYVPC in Solvang, CA 93463.
