FOND DU LAC / MADISON - Emma L. Finke, age 92, formerly of the Madison area and a resident of Fond du Lac Lutheran Home for the past two-and-one-half years, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at the home. She was born June 29, 1910, in the town of Vermont, Dane County, the daughter of Ole A. and Ida M. Erickson Bakken. On Feb. 23 1931, she married Emery W. Finke at Vermont Lutheran Church, town of Vermont. He preceded her in death Sept. 14, 1966. Emma worked for the Marshall School District and later worked as a clerk for the State of Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles. She retired in 1975. She was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sun Prairie. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and the Colonial Club where she served on many boards and committees. She enjoyed ceramics and was an avid traveler, traveling throughout the United States, Canada and Hawaii. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Survivors include four children, Carol (John) Zeller of Fond du Lac, Lyle (Cynthia) Finke of DePere, Douglas Finke of Escondido, Calif., and Dale (Janine) Finke of Madison; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Adeline Sutcliffe of Madison, Inez Schanel of McFarland, Rena Wendt of Mazomanie, and Lucille (A. Bernard) Prescott of Orlando, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Stanley Finke of Mount Horeb; a cousin, Mrs. Ina Balz of Freeport, Ill., and three special friends, Faith Bord of Fond du Lac, Dolores Bublitz of Fond du Lac, and Frida Diefenthaler of Sandy, Utah; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Orlando Bakken; and a sister, Alice Heisig. Visitation for Mrs. Finke will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, from noon until 1 p.m. at OUR SAVIOR'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, Sun Prairie. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. David J. Berggren officiating. Burial will follow at Medina Cemetery, Marshall. Uecker-Witt funeral Home, Fond du Lac, is serving the family.
