Benjamin was a Private in Company B of the 13th Iowa Infantry during the Civil War.
Mr. Frank Applegate, and old and well known resident of Jefferson Township living eight miles west of here, was thrown from his wagon Friday. One of the wheelsstruck a rut causing him to loose his balance. In alighting he stuck his spine and was completely paralyzed from his waist down. Doctor Frizzelle of Veile, and Hamilton of Donnellson, were called and afforded all the relief possible, but the patient died this morning from the injury. Mr. Applegate was a farmer highly respected and one whose sad taking away will be deplored by his multitude of friends. He was about 54 years old.
