Mr. Archie M. David, 86, of Abilene, Texas, formerly of Lebanon, died Monday, April 19, 2010, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Big Springs, Texas.
Archie was born near Kokomo, on July 18, 1923, to Andrew and Hazel (Smith) David.
Upon graduation from Onward High School, he joined the Navy and trained as an aircraft carrier pilot at the end of World War II. At the end of the war, he married Nancy Hann from Logansport and moved to Lebanon to work for Wood Wholesale Co. He spent nearly his entire career with the same company, serving and making friends with local merchants in Lebanon and Crawfordsville.
He then married Madge Voorhies in 1969, a union that lasted thirty-eight years.
Preceding Archie in death were his parents and his wife Madge. Surviving are four children, Michael (Kay) David of Abilene, Mark (Kathleen) David of Lafayette, La., Joel (Elaine) David of Centreville, Va., and Angela David Gregg of Pittsboro; and four stepchildren, Jerry Voorhies of Colorado Springs, Colo., Judy Voorhies of Kansas City, Mo., Gene (Jane) Voorhies of Harlingen, Texas, and Janet (Jerry) Isenhower of Lebanon. There are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Archie loved to play golf and, when he retired, played nearly every winter day with friends in Texas. He also played in Lebanon in the summer months.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 23, at Myers Chapel of Memories, with Dr. Grant Hodges officiating. Internment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
