Mr. Johanson was born in Astoria to Otto and Leonide (Watson) Johanson, March 28, 1918. He lived in Astoria and was a farmer and worked in metal fabrication. In 1984, he moved to Salem. He enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Masonic and Elk lodges.
He is survived by his companion, Jill MacFawn; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Herbert W. Jr and Donatella Johanson of Battle Ground, Wash., and Dennis Johanson Philomath; one daughter, Barbara Johanson of St. Petersburg Beach, Fla; a brother, Calvin Johanson, and one sister, Nancy Johanson.
At his request, no service will be held.
Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service in Salem is in charge of arrangements.
