Bobby Joe Brown, age 58, of Old Fort, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 20, 2005 in Raeford, NC. A native of McDowell County, he was born on July 26, 1946 to the late Joseph H. "Joe" Brown and Lura Elliott Brown of Old Fort. A member and former Deacon of Cherry Springs Baptist Church he was also a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in the Vietnam War where he was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a superintendent for B. V. Hendrick Industries where he was employed for over 25 years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and he loved farming. A son, Bobby Joe Brown, Jr. and a sister, Dorothy Louise Brown preceded him in death.
Surviving, in addition to his mother are his wife, Donna Wilson Brown of the home; two daughters, Kimberly Brown Sherrill and her husband Alan of Lenoir and Jennifer Brown of Old Fort; and one granddaughter, Victoria Sherrill.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. George Packer officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by a detachment of the Army from Fort Bragg, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, N. C. Affiliate – Region 1, 50 S. French Broad St., Asheville, NC 28801.
