James Allie "Jack" Evans,
95, of Lufkin, was born October 10, 1915 in Smithville, Texas. He passed away Saturday, July 16, 2011 in a Lufkin hospital.

Mr. Evans was retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company of Houston where he was plant supervisor, following 42 years of service. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, James A. "Jim" Jr. and Lynn Evans of Richardson and daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary E. and Russ Varsey of Lufkin.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, June Evans.

Services for Mr. Evans will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2011 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.

Services have been placed in the trust of Gipson Funeral Home; 1515 S. Chestnut, Lufkin, Texas; 936-634-4411.

James Allie "Jack" Evans, 95, of Lufkin, was born October 10, 1915 in Smithville, Texas, the son of the late Rosa Lee (Hewatt) and Charles W. Evans. He passed away Saturday, July 16, 2011 in a local hospital.

Mr. Evans was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company where he was plant supervisor, following 42 years of service. He was a member the Lufkin Evening Lions Club and a member of the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669, A.F. & A.M. Mr. Evans was a very active member of Keltys United Methodist Church, holding many offices. He also volunteered with the Christian Information & Service Center (CISC).

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, James A. "Jim" Jr. and Lynn Evans of Richardson; daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary E. and Russ Varsey of Lufkin; grandchildren, James A. (Trey) Evans III of Forney; Kendra L. Evans and husband Ben Reichert of Garland, R. Allen Exnicious, Jr. and wife Ronda of El Lago, Rhonda A. Smith and husband Bobby of Austin, and Ryan A. Exnicious and wife Sheri of Pasadena; great-grandchildren, Robert Exnicious III of El Lago, Marisa Exnicious of El Lago, Matthew Smith of Austin, Andrew Smith of Austin and Riley James Evans of Garland; sister-in-law, Jane Dwyer of The Woodlands; niece, Diana Gunnels and husband Tom Reynolds of The Woodlands; and a number of cousins, great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, June Evans.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Evans's memory may be made to the General Budget Fund of Keltys United Methodist Church, 1867 Old Mill Road, Lufkin, Texas 75901.

Pallbearers will be Trey Evans, Ben Reichert, Allen Exnicious, Bobby Smith, Ryan Exnicious and Robert Exnicious, III. Services for Mr. Evans will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2011 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Cindy Parker officiating.
