Harry Emil Whiting II 1953-2007
TEXAS CITY — Harry E. Whiting, 80, of Texas City, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2007, in Texas City.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, January 3, 2008, at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Whiting was born July 14, 1927, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Charles M. and Laurantine Whiting. He moved to Texas City in 1950 and was employed by Union Carbide for over 35 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Texas City for 57 years, helped organize the Little League program in the early 50’s, was active in the Girl Scouts with his wife and daughter, helped organize and was an active member of the Carbide Volunteers, and was a Board member of the Texas City Heritage Association.
He helped to organize several bowling leagues in the area and enjoyed golf and fishing.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Opal and his son, Harry Whiting, II.
Survivors include his daughter Karen Pitts and husband, Charlie, of Conroe, Texas; grandchildren Eric Burns and wife, Sherri, of The Woodlands, Hannah Dustin of Conroe, and Ameila Dustin of Camp Wood, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends, and a “Special friend and companion”, Fred the Cockatiel.
