Carol L. Armstrong, age 78 of East Springfield, Pa. went home to be with The Lord on Friday morning, March 18, 2011 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West in Girard, PA, where she had been recently residing. Carol was born on October 11, 1932 in Cranesville, PA, the daughter of the late Edward Smith and Marian (Taylor) Smith Lawrence and step-daughter of the late Bernard L. Lawrence. Carol graduated from the Albion High School and went to work at the Astatic Corp in Conneaut, Ohio where she worked as a clerk in the purchasing department for four years. She then went to work for Molded Fiberglass in Conneaut, where she started out in the assembly department and retired in 1997 in the office. She was a hard worker and was a member of the West Springfield United Methodist Church. Carol was a very active person up until recently. She enjoyed working on ceramics, cooking and baking, e-mailing to friends and family on the computer, and she was an avid gardener which prompted her to become a member of the Elk Valley Garden Club. Besides all of these things, she loved her family very deeply. Besides her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Richard G. Armstrong in 2005. They were married in 1951. They enjoyed 54 wonderful years together. She is survived by three sons: Raymond Armstrong and his wife, Vickie of Albion, Pa.; Gregory Armstrong and his wife, Sandy also of Albion, Pa.; and Richard F. Armstrong and his wife, Rebecca of Franklin, N.C. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and very good friends, Florence English, Lynne Johnson, and Judy Zurinski. Family and friends are invited to call at the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home on Monday, March 21, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Life Celebration Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Robert Klingler of the West Springfield United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials In Memory of Carol be made to either the Springfield Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O.
