Nancy was born May 8, 1950 in Vernon, at the Christ King Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Clifford Bates Lockett and the late Willie Mae Wilkinson Lockett. She married Dr. Frank Edmund Berngen on Aug. 22, 1970, at the First Baptist Church in Chillicothe.

She was a graduate of Chillicothe High School where she was a cheerleader and played basketball. She attended the University of Texas at Arlington where she played basketball on the traveling squad for two years. She was a Cotton Pageant Debutant at Texas A&M while she attended the University of Texas.

After her marriage, she attended Texas A&M University for one year and later moved to South Africa. There, she was a Southern Cross Debutante and was active in the church. Nancy was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Santa Rosa Cattlewomen and a member of Chillicothe Lions Club. She received the Lion of the Year award for 2008-2009. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Vernon.

Above all her many accomplishments she was a precious loving mother, wife, friend and sister. A strong Christian servant to everyone around her.

She is survived by her husband Frank Berngen of the home; two daughters, Dr. Edith Mae Cullen of Tyler, Texas and Ida Jewel Hayworth of Waco, Texas; two sons, Herman Carl Berngen of Dalhart, Texas and Frank Edmond (Ed) Berngen, of Nairobi, Kenya; six sisters, Sherry Welch of Tacoma, Wash., Peggy Glover of Stephenville, Texas, Diana Shugart of Vernon, Marcia Reeves of Lamesa,Texas, Stacy Pecacek of San Antonio, and Connie Walburn of Lockett; three brothers, Mike Lockett of Decatur, Texas; Richard Lockett of Vernon and Clifford Lockett Jr., of Silverdale, Wash.; and three grandchildren, Bethany Grace Berngen, Andrew Ryan Berngen, and Jonathan David Berngen.
