Floyd Eggleston Benton, 86, of Granite Bay, California, died June 29, 2005 at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was born May 2, 1919 in Millsite, Shelby, Alabama, the youngest child of eleven children. His parents were William Monroe Benton and Minnie Dora Champion.
He grew up and attended school in Bessemer, Alabama. He married Margaret Burridge on July 24, 1937. He worked at Hill Air Force Base in Utah during World War II. He was a realtor, built homes, developed subdivisions, and bought and sold land in California, Utah and Idaho. He later moved to California and built a home at Granite Bay. In 1998 he and his wife, Margaret Burridge donated land to The Greater Alabama Council Boy Scouts of America to form the Benton-Burridge Nature Trail. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, a daughter Betty Joyce Benton Smith (husband, Donald Smith) of Kirkland, WA and a son Alvin Carl Benton (wife, Rosalind Machado) of Granite Bay, CA. He was preceded in death by a son, Floyd Wayne Benton (wife, Bonnie Marie Pope) of Homedale, ID. He has 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild still living. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. There will be a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday July 9th at the Mount Vernon Mortuary, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, CA. Internment will be at the Mount Vernon Memorial Park.
