Jeanne McEwen Anderson, 90, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2009, from a stroke and resulting complications. The family will receive visitors at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Rd., Kansas City, Mo. A prayer of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 85th and Wornall, Kansas City, with burial afterward at Mt. Washington Cemetery, 614 S. Brookside Ave., Independence, Mo. The family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice House and Christ the King Catholic Church.

Jeanne was born Dec. 17, 1918, in Kansas City, to Ellen VanDanacker McEwen and James C. McEwen. She attended Woodland Elementary School, Manual High School, K.C. Teachers College, Jane H. Gates Art Institute, and Huff Business School. She worked at R.B. Jones Insurance and the Quartermaster Corps at Lace City Ordinance during World War II. Afterwards she was a free lance commercial artist. She was an accomplished artist in the mediums of both watercolor and oil. Jeanne married Merwin (Andy) Anderson on Jan. 14, 1943, and they were married 62 years until his death in July 2005. Jeanne was an active member in St. Peters PTA, a cub scouts den mother, a Ceramics Club artist, St. Andrews Society, and St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer Services. Jeanne and Andy loved to dance and were founding members of the Carnival Dance Club. She was actively involved in the Silver Notes volunteer singers for the two years prior to her death. She spent 50 years of her life caring for her children, husband, mother and three elderly aunts. She enjoyed the special time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jeanne lived independently in her own home until the month prior to her death. Many thanks to those who cared for her thereafter at Kingswood Manor and Kansas City Hospice House.

She is survived by her children, Dave Anderson and wife Linnea, and Patricia Brasel and husband Jim; grandchildren, Ben Brasel and wife Heather, and Meryl May and husband Derek; and great grandchildren, Cooper May, Dylan May, and Tessa Brasel; and lifelong friends, Mary Frances Segur, Adelia Spann, and Frances Schnabel.
