Fern Eliza Robison Ashcraft of Cheyenne died September 19, 2011 at the age of 88. She was born to George Lewis and Esther (Hairup)Robison on July 29, 1923, and had lived in Cheyenne since 2000.
She graduated from high school at age 16 and attended Utah State College for two years and business college for four months. She was a secretary to the Juvenile Court in Salt Lake City, Utah for a winter. At age 19, she married H. Wayne Ashcroft who was a U.S. Army Sergeant in WWII stationed in Salt Lake City for four years. Fern was a secretary for ARMCO Steel Company until their two daughters, Cheri (Gary) of Casper and Karen Ashcraft Byrne were born. After the war ended, the family moved to Montana where Wayne taught high school for a year and was an aquatic biologist for a summer. The family moved to Wyoming in 1948 where Wayne worked as a gas and oil landman for 38 years. Fern was a Casper substitute high school teacher for several years. She wrote and illustrated several books she gave to friends and relatives. After Wayne retired, the couple took trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Peru, and the Amazon, Kenya, Mexico, and around the world.
Fern is survived by her daughters, her brother, Harold Robison and sister, Carol Rubey, both of Salt Lake City, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
