Ed Hessel Ed Hessel Former Amityville resident Elwood "Ed" Hessel died June 12, 2010 in Temple Terrace, Florida after a long bout with kidney cancer. He was 91.

Born in Brooklyn on Jan. 16, 1919, his family moved to Amityville in the late 1940s and he later served in the U.S. Army. He lived on Homestead Avenue for many years, before moving to Lutz, Florida in 1967. A Mason and a Shriner, Mr. Hessel worked as a selfemployed electronics technician.

He leaves behind his sons: Richard and his wife Judy of Woodridge, Illinois and Ronald and his wife Lorraine of Bradon, Florida. His eight grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren also survive him. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy on Dec. 17, 1999.

Cremation was private. A memorial service was held June 17, 2010 at First United Methodist Church, Lutz, Florida.
