Nellie J. Crawford, 81, of Port Royal, died at 8:30 am on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at the Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Born on June 28, 1929, in Spruce Hill Township, Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late Frank W. and Viola (Clark) Swartz. Her husband of nearly 63 years, Richard B. Crawford, whom she married on June 30, 1947, survives.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children; Frank R. Crawford and his wife Patsy, of Honey Grove, Timothy A. Crawford and his wife Pat, of Garland, TX, Kathy J. Saylor, of Port Royal, six siblings, Kathryn Martz, of Steelton, Verna Landis and her husband Lynn, of Mifflintown, Kenneth Swartz and his wife Evelyn, of Mexico, Francie Kepner and her husband Earl, of Belleville, James Swartz and his wife Betty, of Port Royal, Richard Swartz, of Chambersburg, and she leaves behind two grandsons, Chris Crawford and his wife Emily, Evan R. Saylor, as well as two great grandchildren, Caitlyn Crawford and Luke Crawford.

Preceding her in death were one son-in-law, Stephen R. Saylor and one brother, Robert Swartz.
Mrs. Crawford was a 1947 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown, and a homemaker, who also served as the auditor for Tuscarora Township.

She was a member of the Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, Mifflintown, the Juniata County Republican Committee, and the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau where she served on various committees. Her volunteerism also spanned many community and state organizations.

Nellie shared her gift of cooking and baking at the many church gatherings she attended, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, on Saturday, January 29, 2011, from the Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, Mifflintown, with her pastor, the Rev. Steven D. Munger, officiating. Interment will be private in the Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.

There will be no viewing; however, family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, Saturday, at the church.
