Darlene P. Gerhart, age 75, passed away at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Massachusetts on March 16, 2016, after a lengthy illness.

Born on April 18, 1940 in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, she lived the majority of her life in Port Royal, PA and Halifax, MA and worked as an Executive Secretary for the Personal Care Division at Gillette Company. Darlene was a long time member of the United Church of Christ in Halifax, MA. Survivors include sons Marc Gerhart of Pembroke, MA, Scott Gerhart of Westerville, OH, and Lance Gerhart of Middleboro, MA.

She liked to spend as much time as possible with her eight grandchildren and valued her time with them. Always an advocate for animals, she also enjoyed spending time with her pet dogs and cats as well.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a Memorial Celebration of Life from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett St, Pembroke, MA 02359. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to the Friends of Plymouth Pound (http://friendsplymouthpound.org.) in Darlene’s name.

Darlene was the daughter of the late Francis "Red" and Maxine (Weimer) Pennebaker. She was a 1958 graduate of Tuscarora Valley High School. She married Ronald P. Gerhart. (Found in her entry in the Port Royal 200th anniversary website on May 13, 2016)
