Lemuel Atkins came to Tennessee from North Carolina, but was born in South Carolina. Lemuel and Elizabeth Atkins later disappeared from Jefferson County. Moses Black Atkins was postmaster of the post office at Winfield, IL at one time. Moses Black Atkins was a Civil War veteran having entered the Army in 1862 and was discharged at the end of the war.
