James A. Giger, the son of Wilbert Milton and Lois Berneice (Reeve) Giger, was born May 13, 1940 at Guide Rock, Nebraska. He departed this life on Monday, April 17, 2000 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 59 years, 11 months and 4 days.
Jim grew up in the Guide Rock community and graduated from the Guide Rock High School with the class of 1957. He continued his formal education at Kearney State Teachers College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in music. He received his Masters Degree from Northern Colorado in Greeley. He taught school for a number of years at various communities including: Benkelman, Ansley, Franklin and Guide Rock, Nebraska. He also taught at Gillette, Wyoming and Burr Oak, Kansas. Following his retirement from teach, Jim returned to the farm near Guide Rock and was employed with the Farmers Union Coop Elevator for many years.
His greatest passion in life was his love of music. He also enjoyed attending dances in the area with friends. In his leisure time, Jim enjoyed target shooting with his guns.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Wilbert and Lois Giger. Left to cherish his memory are his sister and brother-in-law Margene and Bob Stueven of Springfield, Missouri; a brother and sister-in-law Wayne and Millie Giger of Gibbon, Nebraska; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Jim will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure to know him.
