Mary Wiley Faxel, a homemaker and oil producer, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, in Fort Worth. Cryptside service: 2 p.m. Saturday in Independence Chapel, Greenwood Mausoleum. Visitation: Open beginning at 10 a.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Mary "Dee" Wiley was born Oct. 8, 1921, in Houston and attended the University of Texas. She married Jack Trapp, Mike Moncrief's father, but the couple divorced when Moncrief was young.
She later married R.B. "Dick" Moncrief, who adopted her son, giving him the name of the legendary oil family.
Three more children were born to Dick and Dee Moncrief -- Richard Barto Moncrief Jr., Elizabeth Scott "Scotty" Moncrief and Lee Wiley Moncrief. Richard and Elizabeth Moncrief preceded their mother in death. Dick Moncrief died in 1970.
She attended Texas University and was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She was also a member of the Junior League, The Assembly, Shady Oaks, River Crest, Ridglea Country Club and The Fort Worth Club. In years past, Mrs. Faxel served on the All Saints Hospital Board of Trustees, the Goodwill Industries Board, the Planned Parenthood Board, and the Lena Pope Home Board. She was very active in the initial building, and the early additions, of the All Saints Episcopal Church. Dee and Ralph were founders of the Faxel Endowment for Nurses, administrated by All Saints Health Foundation. Survivors: Husband, Ralph E. Faxel; daughter, Lee Wiley Moncrief; son, Michael J. Moncrief and his wife, Rosie; her husband's children, Ralph E. Faxel Jr. and his wife, Brenda; daughter, Tara Douglas and her husband, Hiram; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
