Iva M. Bickert was born to Victor and Alice Snider Condon at Geneva, Nebraska, on March 31, 1904. She passed away on March 5, 1999, at the Exeter Community Care Center, at the age of 94 years, 11 months and five days. She was one of seven children in the family.

Iva attended school at Lushton, Nebraska, and later moved to Exeter with her family. In the early 20's she worked at the Exeter Tag Factory. Walking back and forth from home to her job, she met Gerald Bickert. Iva and Gerald Robert Bickert of Exeter were married at Exeter on September 5, 1923, at the St. Stephen's Catholic Church. One son and one daughter were born to this marriage.

Iva and Gerald farmed near the Exeter community for a number of years and later farmed in the York county area until 1956. She worked at the McCool coffee shop nearly all the years that they spent farming. She dearly loved the community and being with people. After Iva and Gerald left farming, they made their home in McCool Junction, Nebraska.

Both Iva and Gerald did custodial work at the McCool School for 11 years. She loved children and they in turn loved to be with and around Iva.

Iva was a faithful member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCool, and was the last surviving charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Exeter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Alice Condon; husband, Gerald Bickert; three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by daughter, Donna Rodgers and husband Alden of Mayer, Ariz.; son Gerald L. Bickert and wife Phyllis of Lincoln, Neb.; sister, Jean Condon Styskal and husband Fred of Exeter, Neb.; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and by a host of friends and other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 1999, from the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCool Junction, with Father Mark Pfeifer officiating. Lynn Hall sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "How Great Thou Art" accompanied by Deb Hoarty. Casket bearers were Lonnie Bickert, Dennis Clark, Ronald Clark, Steve Green, Daryl Styskal and Ron Styskal. Interment was in the Exeter Cemetery.
