Roger W. “Colonel” Althide, 96, of rural Warsaw, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at his home. He was born on April 3, 1916 in Sutter, IL, a son of Wesley and Bertha Humke Althide. He married Leona Lena Kunz on April 15, 1936 at Bethany Evengelical Church of Christ in Tioga. She preceded him in death on April 26, 1994.
Roger is survived by; three children: Barbara (Ronald) Logsdon of Leisure City, FL, Ardith Drienik of Lee’s Summit, MO, Max Althide of Warsaw, IL; grandchildren: David Logsdon (Penny), Lora (Butch) Keim, Michael Althide, Justin (Kate) Althide and Victoria Drienik (Jeff) great grandchildren: Jacob, Dalton, Krystan, Krystal, Karley, Kayla, Taylor, Cody, Chase, Aiden, Delayna and Allyona; great-great grandchildren: Brylea and Madisyn a longtime friend Teresa Jefferson of Keokuk, IA.
Roger was preceded in death by his loving wife, Leona Althide, parents, Wesley and Bertha Althide, a brother, Lester Althide, a son-in-law, Ivan Drienik and a grandson, Mark Logsdon.
Roger attended the Orange School House, Wythe Township. He and his wife farmed in the Warsaw area for many years. He was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Sutter. R.W. enjoyed visiting with friends, playing cards, traveling and farming.
Services will be held Monday, April 23, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. At Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Sutter with Pastor Roy Paterik officiating. Burial in Bethlehem United Church of Christ Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 22, after 2:00 PM with the family meeting friends between 4:00 and 7:00 at Lamporte – St. Clair Funeral Home of Hamilton.
Memorials have been established for Hancock County Blessing Hospice or Bethlehem United Church of Christ.
