Fireman Kills Wife, Then Self in Montgomery
Mongtomery, Feb. 19. (AP)
A 53-year-old boiler room fireman at the veterans hospital killed his wife and then himself with a small foreign-make automatic pistol here today.
The dead were identified as Mr. and Mrs. James Franklin Booth.
Police said the shooting climaxed an argument between the two and was witnessed by Doris Braselton, 12-year-old daughter of Mrs. Booth by a former marriage.
Coroner M. B. Kirkpatrick pronounced it murder and suicide.
City Detectives W. R. Collins and R. C. Cox said Mrs. Booth had been shot five times and was dead when they arrived at the home. The husband died soon after arriving at a hospital.
Collins said Booth and his 29-year-old wife had apparently been drinking before the argument started when he pulled out a small German Mauser and shot her three times in the back and twice through the shoulder.
Booth then shot himself through the right temple, Collins reported.
The Booths had four children, three by a former marriage by Mrs. Booth.
